Next stop was Viceroy Riviera Maya and seriously my hunch was right with this one … it attracts the cool crowd from LA, New York, Miami … handsome couples so cool they don’t need glamour resort wear but their beach bags are Louis Vuitton, you know what I mean? I didn’t see one strappy heel here!

It’s all so rustic I didn’t think I had arrived at the right resort.. but once I was cleansed with a traditional Mayan cleansing ritual at the chic spa (de rigueur on arrival) I knew I would fit right in.
Once you step inside these villas (luxe plus!) and spend a few days here, you will understand the philosophy behind Viceroy… it’s laid back cool, where your every wish is catered for and the food at the breezy beachside restaurant is some of the best I ate on the Riviera Maya – please, please, please don’t miss the fish tacos or the ceviche, they are both equally delicious!!
My very own Royal Villa was set in a private garden complete with sleeping pavilion, huge bathing pavilion including outdoor “moon shower” and my very own swimming pool which came with swinging hammock. By the way all villas come with their own swimming pool… Natch!
The beach scene is buzzy and while not as private as others I experienced, the quality of the villas and services that Viceroy Riviera Maya provide are top-notch and more than make up for this. Besides, the ocean does look dreamy from your poolside lounge chair and the restaurant any way you look at it. Oh and did I mention the service? It all comes with a warm Mayan smile and nothing seems impossible.
