EAGLES NEST
It was a weekend of pure New Zealand lodge luxury. As a guest of Luxperience and Southern Crossings (my favourite luxury New Zealand travel partner), I had the pleasure of checking into the breathtaking Eagles Nest and the oh so chic Lodge at Kauri Cliffs… both of which are situated in the beautiful Bay of Islands on New Zealand’s north island.
First stop was Eagles Nest. Situated just outside the picture perfect town of Russell in the Bay of Islands. This privately elevated luxury retreat is one of the best in New Zealand and deservedly so. Five chic villas ranging from one bedroom to the four bedroom minimalist masterpiece of Villa Rahimoana dot the peninsula along a dramatic ridge-line that drops to a valley and the surrounding beaches below.

This is private, full-blown catered luxury… hideaway for days with the family or a group of funsters in the Villa Rahimoana (it comes with DJ mixing deck and surround sound throughout – I had my “Bodyguard” moment here!). You’ll need the chef as there is no restaurant on site (Chef Keith makes the most amazing duck!), although super sumptuous and generous provisions are included daily in the fridge to self cater those moments when you need them most… side of delicious New Zealand smoked salmon anyone? If you do need to venture out, the charming town of Russell is just moments down the hill where there are plenty of options to dine.
Rahimoana comes with a heli pad (large enough to land two beasts at once), a private gym with on site personal trainer to work you over if you’re so inclined, a chef-worthy kitchen and the obligatory panic room if you should so need it. I told you it was very Whitney Houston… think “The Bodyguard”!
Eagles Nest is private glamour with breathtaking panoramic views… where villas come with private infinity pools (heated for year round swimming) and no one says “no”.
