I know exactly where I am going to start with this one… at the beginning!
I jetted to Cancun right after LE Miami (THE Contemporary Travel show held for the first time in Miami – and I made the very elite guest list, but more on this later) on a mission to explore Mexico in twelve short days. So this is where it begins, Escencia Private Estate… and I think I may have started with the best!
Chic rooms with plunge pools housed in Mayan /Colonial style buildings (think adobe style… white washed walls with serene, understated interiors) dotted around this lush private jungle estate that once belonged to the Italian Duchess Rosa D’Ferrari. Rosa lived in the main house which is at the centre of the resort, a place to come together and meet other chic guests from around the world, we mingled with handsome couples so very much in love… it’s that kind of place. You can’t help but feel very privileged to be able to stay here and imagine what it must have been like to be a private guest of the Duchess when she was in residence.
Slim Aarons esque pools abound on the beachfront grounds… so feel free to relax poolside with a Mimosa that appears on que or take a beachside Palapa with impeccable service ….. lunch with your feet in the sand?? ….you got it! Oh and watch for the iguanas that live on property, they are majestic!
Food is superb authentic Mexican and was served poolside the night I dined. Don’t miss the fab assorted Ceviche’s (a house specialty) and do order the Mexican omelette with Chorizo for breakfast – I ordered mine with egg whites to keep the beach body in shape!
Esencia is quiet, discreet and oh so chic, it feels understated and you just know you have arrived somewhere very special indeed… my only wish? That I could have met the duchess, to tell her how truly beautiful I thought it all was.
