Soneva Jani

ISLAND STYLE

When you think of the Maldives, do you think of stunning blue water, palm trees, dreamy sun sets with a tropical castaway feel … well I do!

Look no further, I’ve found your perfect island hideaway, right here at Soneva Jani.

Soneva’s “no shoes, no news” policy starts the moment you board your launch transfer to the island (after gliding in by seaplane across azure waters dotted with sandy island archipelagos), and don’t worry, you won’t be needing them again until you depart as the resort is that easy-going and carefree. *just make sure you’ve had that pedicure prior to arrival boys!

ISLAND TIME

Here in the Noonu Atoll, days are spent on island time. Sleep in and then head to a delicious breakfast at “The Gathering” – the central part of the resort housing a restaurant, bar, spa, retail shop and most important of all, the ice cream and chocolate rooms (these are complimentary and open 24/7!).

After breakfast join a snorkel trip with the dive team. Just fifteen minutes by boat from the resort you’ll be submersed into a coral drop off teaming with colourful fish, turtles and the odd moray eel. The attentive dive team prepare your goggles, set you up wth flippers and have a warm towel and cool drink on hand when you return from frolicking in paradise. It’s the chicest snorkel trip I have ever done!

LAID BACK LUXURY

Villas are mainly over water and they are extravagant, each has its own pool and expansive sun decks for that all important private suntanning time. Most villas also have a water slide to bring out your inner child… and does tend to tire out the kids and adults alike. As well as being some of the most spacious villas in the Maldives, they are also some of the chicest. Built from reclaimed timbers, the castaway-fantasy villas are very Robinson Crusoe in style and furnished with the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.

STAY LIKE MR WALLACE

I stayed in the three bedroom Island Reserve which was flawless, and I think this could make the perfect party pad with a group of friends. I do prefer staying beachfront too.

Other highlights included an Observatory Deck Dinner where we dined under the stars with the resident Soneva astronomer… this was a romantic and fascinating experience all in one and I also loved the new “Crab Shack” for lunch – possibly my favourite dining location on the island, with its casual island style, feet-in-the-sand dining… here the island chefs serve up the most delicious crab (they cook every style!).

NEED TO KNOW

The new spa and more over-water villas will be completed by the end of the year (2019) but even with the extra inventory, you need to book early to stay at this island stunner. It’s the perfect retreat to hide out for days or even weeks.

I discovered a few resorts on my recent Maldives discovery trip and this was by far, my very favourite.
