The Resort Report

My Top Resort Destination Picks for 2016

Le Sereno – St Barth – it’s classic and chic and Le Sereno still sits at the top of my St Barth’s list – this luxe hideaway, worthy of celebrity status has still got it. (Hugh Jackman and family were here the week before I arrived). Go for the Grande Suite Plage rooms along the shore featuring pretty private waterfront gardens with sweeping views of the lagoon … you won’t regret it.

Bali – Mandapa Estate – this is your jungle-lush escape with the luxe turned up. Hideaway for a few days enjoying riverfront pool suites you’ll never want to leave and a spa you could spend days in. The authentic town of Ubud is nearby where you can pick up those must-have gold painted umbrellas. So chic.

Siem Reap – Phum Baitang – this charming Cambodian city still has an under-the-radar feel you don’t experience too often these days. Go all the way and stay at Phum Baitang – SR’s latest luxury bolt-hole on the outskirts of the city but do not fear … they have tuk-tuks on standby to whisk you to stylish restaurants in the city and the temples beyond. This is one for all of you design darlings, the interiors are achingly chic and the cigar bar must be one of Asia’s prettiest. Go Now!

Cabarita Beach – Halcyon House – yearning for a quintessential Aussie beach escape in stylish surroundings? For years this was an impossibility but now you can head directly to Halcyon House for a great Australian  beach house experience. Stunning rooms, eclectically designed by Anna Spiro help ease you into dreamy beachfront bliss. It’s like staying in  friends beach house – only better – it comes with room service and Italian flair courtesy of the hotel manager Mauro De Riso formerly of another fave, J.K. Capri.

Nihiwatu – Sumba Island – possibly Asia’s best surf resort on the edge of wildness. Don’t stress if you can’t paddle a wave, they have handsome surf instructors on hand to guide you through the do’s and dont’s. What you’ll experience here is swept away island luxury (and fab food to match). Do everything or nothing at all, this is a travel experience for the new millennium, a new type of resort that goes above and beyond the realms of traditional island luxury. Don’t miss it.
