ME CABO

You really have to be careful what you wish for!  Just the other day, I was sweltering in 40 C heat wishing I was in a cabana, poolside with a heavily garnished beverage… the next thing I know I’m flying into San Jose del Cabo’s dramatic mountain lined runway and getting whisked off to ME Cabo. Rooms are simply furnished with locally quarried marble floors and decorated with some spectacular sculptures and paintings by renowned Mexican artist Yuri Zatarain. It’s not the most tricked up resort in the Los Cabos region but it’s all about “Location, location, location!” as it’s right on Medano beach and a stones throw from the action of the town and the marina at Cabos San Lucas.

The piece de resistance is The Nikki Beach Pool and Beachclub, with a freshly raked, basket-weave pattern in the sand every morning… who does that? Even the turtles think it’s pretty special… one laid eggs there right in front of us.

Poolside cabanas are festooned with expertly fluffed cushions, bolsters and rolled towels. Poolside service is attentive while everyone is swaying to the sultry sounds, played by a string of DJ’s… they even shipped DJ Nick Warren from the UK to play a set on Sunday afternoon just to get the entertainment level peaking!! If you know what I mean?

The vista of the Baja California Peninsula (unlike the other) never gets old… especially at sunset when it becomes illuminous and mesmerising!

Dining is casual affair and being on the Baja you can’t help but indulge in seafood and let’s face it… where else can you afford to have lobster carpaccio every day? I was all over the “Ceviche Mixto” at Nikki Beach and the tapas of scallops and crab at Tequila Fusion. Here they have urns of several different infused tequilas, primarily to build margaritas that ultimately enhance the simplicity of the menu. It’s also nice to know you have a few good back-ups with an extensive room service menu along with fab neighbourhood and marina restaurants nearby.

At ME Cabo, the pool party scene is mainly on the weekends so mid-week it’s quite chilled, water sports are on tap and there’s lots of options for your morning walks. Mix it up in the substantially equipped gym and there is even yoga on a kayak! The YHI Spa has every treatment imaginable so luxuriate in the aroma of green tea and lime whilst your masseur rubs out any pangs!

Room tip – Book a ME + (plus) room with amazing view of the Peninsula from your bed. The lovely David Cerda will co-ordinate anything you desire at the lounge, which is complete with a big screen and computers at your disposal.

Complimentary petit dejeuner delivered to your room each morning, towel top up at turn down and welcome drinks on Friday nights make these the pick of the suites. Oh… can’t forget the turbo powered blow dryer, flat irons and Aveda products… heaven.

Everything is possible here at ME Cabo, just depends on how you like it… don’t slap me “but it’s all about ME!”
