ALILA VILLAS ULUWATU
Now this is superstar glamour… Alila Villas Uluwatu (part of the stunning Alila group of hotels and resorts) is a chic, modern clifftop-hugging resort that is not only super sexy but also environmentally friendly with an EarthCheck Silver accreditation… it’s so cool it hurts.
I love its exclusive, private location in Uluwatiu, (only 30 minutes from the bright lights of Seminyak) and I would suggest it’s the perfect place to escape to for that discreet tryst as you can hide away in this all-pool villa resort for days… and days.
First night I met my friend Sean Brennan the General Manager of Alila Villas at The Warung, the resorts’ in-house Indonesian restaurant. What was meant to be a catch up over a drink turned into a lovely long Balinese feast (with dishes all chosen by Sean). Read on for the exclusive menu which was a definite highlight of my stay… I can’t believe I ate all of that…but it was truely delicious!
For Starter: The Conglak – 12 different sambals representing the favourites found in and around the Indonesian archipelago coupled with two different types of krupuk.
Appetizers: Mixed Sate – minced mahi mahi on lemon grass stick, chicken and beef Lawar Udang – young papaya and prawn salad Lawar Ayam – snake bean and chicken salad Tuna Salad – grated tuna, lemongrass, onion and garlic.
Mains: crispy duck Babi Panggang – grilled pork ribs Sambel Udang – prawn curry with coconut milk Nasi putih (steamed white rice), Nasi Mera (steamed natural / wild rice) and Nasi kuning (steamed white rice in coconut milk and a few secret ingredients)
Desert: Home made coconut ice cream
As you can proably gather the food is one of the star features of the resort. Sean is extremely passionate about the quality of your dining experience, and it needs to be as other options are a drive away from the resort. The villas are chic and private. Think cool dark, contemporary interiors made of wood, stone and rattan with luxurious bathrooms. Expansive outdoor areas where you can jump from your daybed into the plunge pool help these villas stand out from the rest! This is exclusive luxury at its best.
Spend your days holed up here in your luxury villa with your very own butler on tap. Or slink around the resorts’ famously photographed cliff top pool, where they will set you up with your own picnic basket of goodies, including chilled water and towels, sun screen and snacks. Either way you are going to love it.

Don’t miss Finn’sS Beachclub situated close to Alila Villas, the resort will run you down there in 10 minutes. This is true castaway, tropical island stuff with ocean so blue it will take our breath away. A top restaurant serving fresh fish and Indonesian specialties (and a fabulous sexy sound track to match) make this a must-do day trip.
